Anniversary in Haiti

Posted on Monday, January 19th, 2009, by Teresa under General News, Mike, Teresa

Now it is a couple of days beyond our anniversary but I thought I would share with you our wonderful evening.  Mike and I have been married now for 35 years — kind of amazing since all of our friends thought that we wouldn’t make it past 6 weeks!  Two hard-headed, strong-willed teenagers — just wouldn’t last.  But, I knew that God had a plan for our lives from the very beginning.  We have definitely had our share of rough times but when you realize what the word commitment means then you look at things a little bit differently.  I thank God for a partner that loves Him and puts Him first.
Mike was so creative for our anniversary this year.  Haiti is not the most optimal place to celebrate — there is really nowhere to go especially out in BeauChamp.  So, he made a little tropical paradise up on the roof.  He put a string of lights and a lighted palm tree up (powered by solar) and made a little table covered by a beach towel, dolphins and manatee statues, and of course a surfer guy and girl along with …

Back in Haiti

We have been back in Haiti for 1-1/2 weeks now. I cannot believe how much can happen in that short amount of time. We were at the mission for 2-1/2 days and then headed to BeauChamp on Monday. We stopped in Port-de-Paix for some supplies and then on to home.

Wow, the road to BeauChamp is really, really bad. I think it is a good thing that we forget some things rather quickly because I had definitely forgotten how bad the road had gotten especially after the hurricane. But it was worth the travel to get to our home sweet home.
We arrived home and everyone was so glad to see each other. It was so good to see our Haitian family. They were so gracious in looking after the house and our animals while we were gone. Poor Bandit has surely lived up to his name. He was pretty much in solitary confinement while we were gone. He had started running with some dogs and Odenis was afraid he would get killed so he kept him in his cage while we were gone.

Boy, were they ever …

Sewing Hope Program — Would you like to help?

Sewing Hope
I have been so thrilled to see all of the packets provided for this program thus far.  At the present time I have 5 ladies in this program.  We come together each week to pray, study God’s word and then they are provided with their packet to take home and complete.  They have done a wonderful job so far.  Many beautiful babies will have a new and beautiful blanket to go home in because of this program.  Madame Ilryck, Madame Sadilis, Madame T-Poppa, Madame Elisne, and Clemise  are very thankful for this opportunity.
Now I am going to really ask for a big favor.  I would like to increase this program to employ 10 women.  I have 5 women from the church and now I would like to reach out to the community of BeauChamp.  I would like to provide this to 5 unchurched women.  I would like the opportunity to not only help them physically with work but to help them learn of a man who came to this earth to provide salvation for them.  With having to come to prayer-time and bible study – I hope …

2 weeks back in the states — Thanksgiving with family and the agony of a little stone…

Boy what a 2-week stint it has been.  We came in and went directly to the National Missionary Convention in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The convention went great and it was nice for Vogly, Ferdinand, and Rolgard to  be able to see each other and visit.  We then flew to Orlando where Vogly had to fly one route and Mike and I flew another route but we ended up meeting in Orlando.  Mike had to go all around the airport because Vogly was not where he was supposed to be.  He just started walking around and was trying to call his mom.  After finally finding Vogly we got home at about 11:30 p.m.  We were to leave the next day heading toward Alabama.  We finally got off at about 2:00 p.m. heading toward Tallahassee to spend the night with our son.
Finally making it to Alabama to share Thanksgiving with 16 adults, 3 children, 2 infants, and 3 dogs.  What a family gathering.  We enjoyed Thanksgiving even with the amount of people.  Everyone left for their respective homes by Sunday morning and we all still loved each other.  We even went out and …
