Tears of a Servant
I have been trying to write this post for about 3 weeks now. It started in my mind while we were in the states. As Mike and I travel to speak and present the work that we and Northwest Haiti Christian Mission are involved in — I cannot help but get overwhelmed at times with all of the generosity that pours out from God’s people. Tears have not come easy to me through the years (I always thought it was girlie or I would be considered a cry-baby and me being a tomboy — you can imagine) but I have been so touched that my heart is just overwhelmed.
We were in North Carolina going to Cape Lookout to look at the wild ponies and were just talking about the work in Haiti. When we finished that afternoon and pulled up to the dock we offered the captain of the boat a tip — he said no and reached in his pocket and gave us his entire days’ worth of tips for the work in Haiti. Now that is amazing. He did not even know us but felt God’s leading and followed it.
Next we went to eat at the house of R.V. and Jennie. R.V. is building a boat for NWHCM (The Haiti Redemtion). As we toured the shed and looked at the boat and listened to the stories of how it all came about, the blood, sweat and tears being put into this project — again, it just amazed me how God’s people come together and do His work. To think that I will be in a boat in Haiti that is filled with ping-pong balls with scripture written on them from people all over the U.S. that have pulled together to provide water transportation for the mission. Please check out the building of this boat at the following link.

Next we go to 2 different churches in North Carolina that do not know Mike and I at all and do not have a relationship with NWHCM but are interested in becoming partners. That is so exciting when churches and people want to work together with NWHCM to make Haiti a better place. Can’t wait to see what happens here! They even take up a love offering to help with our expenses and they have just met us. It makes the scripture in Galatians 6:9,10 come to mind —“Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Next we present the work to a new church in Florida who wants to support us — how God works is just amazing. One of our supporters is needing to lower our support but God sends another one to help cover part of this loss. How can we ever doubt that God will take care of us. I try to say thank you to my Heavenly Father but it seems so shallow of a gesture but I know he will accept my thankfulness. After all it is His work being done, His love being shown, His mercy and grace being bestowed.
I could go on and on about our trip in this time. We got to see family, old friends, revive church acquaintances, meet new people and even enjoy a few days of R&R but when all is said and done we got to present God’s work in Haiti and for that we are thankful.
