Vogly’s Married — Wedding Day at Last
(Having trouble getting pictures to upload — will publish them when I can)
Monday, June 20, 2009 @ 3:00 p.m., Wedding Day Bliss for Vogly and Ermante. Well as most things in Haiti, Vogly’s wedding was on Haiti time. Mike had talked to Vogly about how important it is to start on time and actually thought he had gotten that point across — but, 2:45 p.m. and Ermante is taking a bath. It is now 3:10 and we are just starting to put on her wedding dress and get her all fixed up. No one extra is here except for the bride’s family that was brought by tap-tap by the mission so they had to be on time because Mike made sure it left in plenty of time. It was very, very hot while we were getting ready for the wedding. Poor Ermante was sweating so much just getting into her dress.
Finally — 4:00 p.m. and it is time to start. Mike comes up to me and says — don’t you know, you are the maid of honor. Well, no I did not know and I really did not have any special clothes but I guess what I had on would have to do. Vogly was pacing around and when Mike asked him if he was nervous — he said — oh no, I’m not nervous (but he really was)! Ermante was beautiful in her gown. She was a little nervous too. Then when it came time for the kiss — you know how the Haitans are — they were all so excited. Vogly had those lips puckered up and was waiting for the pictures to be taken. Mike started joking with him and pulled him away saying that his kiss was lasting way to long.
During the ceremony it started to rain, well actually pour. I would say that was a bad thing but it really cooled things off so that was nice. But it really stormed and there was a lot of lightning. I was beginning to wonder if Mike and I were going to be able to get back across the river.
The reception was nice. The heat had done a number on the icing on the cake but all in all it was very good. Everyone had a nice dinner, cake and a cold drink. Vogly was happy. He was so excited to get to the hotel and worried about the rain that he did not even tell us bye. I guess we will forgive him — we were not the priority!
We thought that we had married all of our “children” but I guess that Vogly makes it 4 married children. We are so happy for them both. We pray that God will unite them together as one and that they will have a long and beautiful relationship.
We would also like to thank those of you who sent a monetary gift to Vogly and Ermante. This will help them to pay for their wedding and help them to get a start of setting up their home.
