Anniversary in Haiti
Now it is a couple of days beyond our anniversary but I thought I would share with you our wonderful evening. Mike and I have been married now for 35 years — kind of amazing since all of our friends thought that we wouldn’t make it past 6 weeks! Two hard-headed, strong-willed teenagers — just wouldn’t last. But, I knew that God had a plan for our lives from the very beginning. We have definitely had our share of rough times but when you realize what the word commitment means then you look at things a little bit differently. I thank God for a partner that loves Him and puts Him first.
Mike was so creative for our anniversary this year. Haiti is not the most optimal place to celebrate — there is really nowhere to go especially out in BeauChamp. So, he made a little tropical paradise up on the roof. He put a string of lights and a lighted palm tree up (powered by solar) and made a little table covered by a beach towel, dolphins and manatee statues, and of course a surfer guy and girl along with a lighted candle hut. We also had music via iPod — featuring The Beach Boys, Bread and Jim Croce (that good old 70s music) to listen to and even dance to a couple of tunes.
Our dinner was made by Madame Odenis with our waiters being Vogly, Odenis and T-Poppa. We had coke with ice chips in the bottle (can’t get any better than that). That also brings back many memories — coming home from the beach on those hot days and stopping by the 7-11 to get a coke, and on those certain days getting a coke so cold it had ice in it — Ahh! Good memories. The beach, good waves, nice tan, cold cokes, and yes a ride on my favorite horse afterwards. Yes — memory lane is good.
All this just to say — I am glad that I am still married to the man of my youth. I am glad that God is still a part of both of our lives. I hope that we have many more years to come and that God has many more adventures for us to experience together! Teresa
